COVID
We are now down to 15,583,459 active cases in the world (I think that’s the lowest I’ve seen it recently). Total deaths is at 3,470,267 (which still around 2% of all cases). There is a singular community case in Australia that’s still classified as active, and that’s in Victoria. Has anyone noticed there’s an increase number of people who don’t wear mask on public transport?
The most vaccinated nation on earth – The Seychelles is experiencing a surge in COVID cases, with a third of the new active cases turning up in people who have received two doses of the vaccine.
“Lockdown has had a positive effect on some people’s mental health, study reveals”. This statement has been countered with “WW2 has had a positive effect on some people’s stamina, study reveals“
Finance and Economics
Warren “the dinosaur” Buffet doesn’t like bitcoin. Some people (prominent people in my life) view cryptocurrencies as danger, a scams, a risky investment class that shouldn’t be touched. And I’ve been thinking about why that is. I think because these people are looking at it from a investment point of view. And from that point of view, it is kind of like the dot com bubble, where there’s a lot of noise, so it will be about separating the signals from the noise. There is a lot of junk coins floating out there. Additionally, it’s mainly a older crowd that has this view as they don’t understand technology. Also they are not looking at the amount of debt that’s being accumulated by governments or the money printing, and how we will ever get out of the low interest environment. It’s a macro systemic issue. It’s about separating state and money like how we have once separated church and state. Australians Need to Wake The F**k up. (and that’s my must watch video this week)
Banks are literally a ponzi schemes at the moment. Feel free to change my mind.
It’s worth listening to why no one is worried about nation states going out of their way to destroy bitcoin. China has banned bitcoin for the 10th time in as many years.
The CFO of Bridge water has left to join a bitcoin financial services provider NYDIG. Bitcoin is trading even lower at $43,200 AUD or $33,600 USD, dropping over 50% from all time highs. I think maybe there’s a bit more to fall, looking at other peaks in the past. The saying that bitcoiners have is “Buy the dip”, and I think this is what a dip looks like. And don’t forget to DYOR (do you own research), don’t take advice from me even if you know me. I consider it a 20 year investment, there will be huge volatility, and it may drop >90%. So only buy what you are willing to lose.
Seems like the Australian government thinks it’s fair game that people can give financial advice on Tiktok. “We have to back Australians to be sensible enough to judge for themselves whether to put their hard earned money into higher-risk assets”
At the end of the day, you could put it all in Dog Money. (funny video, if you like rap music).
Bit light on this week with the newsletter, haven’t found as much content that I find interesting in my travels last week, and also haven’t found the time to write some long form pieces that have been on my mind. Jess helps out by sending me interesting pictures! (1 of which is very inappropriate that I can’t think of any appropriate forum to share!) I’ve mainly been focused on my swimming – 5th lesson in and I can travel just over 10 meters now in 6 strokes. Have not learnt rhythmic breathing yet or even what to do if i can’t reach the floor with my feet!
I’ve just finished the book Tools of Titans, and it’s a great reference book with many great insight and many threads to pull that I’m sure I’m going to need to read again. And that book has lead me to another book called The Artist Way and it’s Morning Pages journals. Morning pages is where you write 3 pages (about absolutely anything that comes to your mind, even if it’s “this sucks, i have nothing to say to today blah blah blah”) as long as it results in 3 pages, every single day. And it’s suppose to give you more creativity and literally change your life. There’s some structure to this thing, that I’m still reading through, but I’m giving it a go.
Anyway have a great week all and if you think you’re having a bad week, just spare a thought for the Bunnings employee that needs to fix this.
